How To Use Makeup Tools by Cari Orr

Do we need to throw away those small blush brushes that we get with our blush produc or do we keep it for away from home touch-ups and purchase another for at-home application?

I firmly believe that the tools you use make your makeup application!  I would stick to your best brushes for the best application.  If you want to keep the “freebie” brushes that are travel size…keep them for travel!

Why do we need a lip brush?

Lip brushes make your lipstick and liner application even and smooth!  You use only the amount you need thus making your products last longer as well.

What is the purpose of a fan brush?

The fan brush is great for those messy “smokey eye” looks.  Place the fan under your lower lash area to catch falling pigments. Another use for this brush is to dust on a light application of bronzer to your cheeks or collar-bone area.

What is  best for  brush storage ?

The best storage for brushes is in a brush case with individual brush slots to protect the bristles from damage.

How do I sanitatize my brushes?

Brushes should be cleaned in between uses with a spray brush cleanser.  This is usually a product that has some alcohol content for disinfection.  It is important to allow the brushes to dry completely before storing them away in your brush case. Then every couple of weeks you should give your brushes a thorough washing (with a shampoo product). Lather the brush heads, rise out the soap, press out excess water, and reshape the heads. Always lay them flat on a clean towel to dry.

How long can we use a sponge and is it best for application purposes?

Sponges tend to absorb a lot of product, so we recommend using them for blending. If you use disposable applicators, remember to throw them out after use!  The most common mistake is keeping them too long which is unhygienic.
